dagwaagin 2012 began with reviewing what we have learned so far while beginning to connect oral history to current study of the wild rice lakes on Fond du Lac. A tour of as many of the cored lakes in October allowed for additional discussion of rice camps and the environmental changes. November focuses on Bang Lake - currently heavily populated with little consideration to the wild rice. Additional cores were gathered as well as diatome and macrofossil samples. Students gathered information about the environment through drawing, writing impressions/answering worksheets provided, taking digital photographs and sun prints. Elder Louis Wise came in and told stories of growing up near Bang Lake (and Perch Lake).
